Welcome to the UKMagSoc’s Ewing Event for 2024.

The Ewing is more than just a technical conference or seminar, it’s an opportunity for the whole magnetics community to come together, listen, learn and discuss what’s happening in their particular magnetic field in addition to catching up with old friends during the heavy focus on social interaction.

As the magnetics world keeps getting larger and larger UKMagSoc tries to provide a platform for technical discussion and social interaction across a wide range of topics and the Ewing is our end of year event that crosses a number of disciplines.

This year we’re really excited to do something completely new, and run the Ewing in partnership with the The Magnetics Show Europe, an exhibition for the permanent magnetics community.

The Show is running over 3 & 4 December in Amsterdam, and the Ewing Event is the Ewing Lecture and an informal networking reception on the 3rd.

We really do hope you will come along to what will be a very informative and engaging evening, filled with the chances to learn and touch base with new and old colleagues.

Ewing Lecture

The prestigious Ewing Lecture will be given by Prof David Brown from the University of Birmingham, UK. His talk will be around the challenges faced by the RE magnet community.

David is an Industrial Professor of Magnetic Materials and their manufacturing processes. He has spent over 20 years working in the industry, including companies such as Magnequench and Hypromag, and has a wealth of experience in applying materials science to real manufacturing scenarios and products.

He is actively researching novel compositions and fabrication techniques with the aim of advancing the technology and providing new solutions to material science challenges.
